But Broady misses out...

Did you catch the ICC Cricketer of the Year awards last night in Dubai?

Erm, yeah, of course...

Sure. So you'll know that Shivnerine Chanderpaul was named as Cricketer of the Year then?

Yeah, and well done to him. Thoroughly deserved. Did Broady win the youngster gong?

Didn't see it then?

Must've popped out for a cuppa at that point.

Sigh. Well he missed out on the "Emerging Talent Award" to Sri Lankan new boy Ajantha Mendis, who has taken 26 wickets in his first three Tests for the Sri Lankans.

Fair enough. Any other news?

Yep. For the third consecutive year the women's game was acknowledged at the awards, and it was England's Charlotte Edwards who picked up the Women's Player of the Year award.

Good on her. Was she the only player from England to be awarded?

No. Cap'n KP and Ryan Sidearse were named in the Test team of the year, though given England's recent one day resurgence, it was odd not to see a single Englishman in the one day twelve.

Twelve? You mean eleven don't you?

No, they have a twelth man of the year too.

That. Is. Brilliant. Imagine being named twelth man of the year? How the hell are you supposed to take that.

I don't know. Ask Stuart Clark (Test) and Salman Butt (One Day)...
