"If you come back I'll take my hand off your pressure point..."

Kevin Pietersen will today begin his one-day leadership of the England side and his first big step has been to persuade his old mucker Steve Harmison to come out of one-day retirement.

Harmison returns after retiring in October 2006, with Ryan Sidebottom still suffering from a bad case of hip and groin-knack. Pietersen's new look attacking batting line-up should finally get the chance to actually bat, after their two games this week against Scotland and South Africa were abandoned because of rain. They began in Scotland, went down to Durham, and now find themselves in Leeds looking for better weather.

Owais Shah will be at three, Flintoff at five while Matt Prior is expected to open with Ian Bell. After an impressive display against Scotland, Yorkshire's Tim Bresnan could well keep his place despite Harmison's recall.

England (from): K Pietersen (capt), I Bell, M Prior (wkt), O Shah, A Flintoff, R Bopara, S Patel, L Wright, T Bresnan, S Broad, J Anderson, A Cook, G Swann, S Harmison.

South Africa (from): G Smith (capt), H Gibbs, J Kallis, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, M Boucher (wkt), V Philander, J Botha, M Morkel, D Steyn, M Ntini, H Amla, J Ontong.

Jimmy didn't need told again where Long Off was...

One Day International. The Grange, Edinburgh.
Scotland v England. Match abandoned due to rain.

No that we should be surprised, but the One Day match between England and Scotland was washed out due to the Scottish rain which descended upon Edinburgh early in England's innings. Chasing a winning total of 157, England were forced to give it up when 10 for no wicket. Earlier, Flintoff's return to the One Dayers proved a successful one with three for 21 as Scotland were restricted to 157/9 in an innings reduced to 44 overs, with Gavin Hamilton top scoring ith 60.

Yes, that's the same Gavin Hamilton who got played one Test for England, got two pairs against South Africa, and never played again. Still, he did well this time, rescuing Scotland from a perilous position of 11/3 after Tim Bresnan, who also impressed with the ball, removed Coetzer and Poonia for ducks.

England play South Africa at The Riverside on Wednesday in a one-off Twenty20 match. What's the odds on getting rain up there too...

Ryan wasn't the greatest at Hide and Seek...

Sidebottom misses out...

Cap'n Pietersen's One Day leadership gets underway today with a game against the mighty Scotland at The Grange in Edinburgh. Ryan Sidebottom is the only absentee, out with a hip injury that also means that he'll miss the Twenty20 game against South Africa on Wednesday. Yorkshire's Tim Bresnan has been called up to the squad in his place.

England (from):
Pietersen (capt), Anderson, Bell, Bopara, Bresnan, Broad, Cook, Flintoff, Patel, Prior, Shah, Sidebottom, Swann, Tremlett, Wright.

Scotland (from): Ryan Watson (capt); G Hamilton, Coetzer, Poonia, Smith, McCallum, Berrington, Wright, MacLeod, Blain, Nel, Drummond, Lyons.

'Karumba!'

It never rains but it pours for Harbajan...

Following his 11-match IPL ban for slapping Sree Santh last month, Indian off-spinner Harbajan Singh has now been handed an additional five-game ban for One Day Internationals by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The ban will take place with immediate effect and comes with a warning that if the 27-year-old caught dishing it out again he will be banned for life. Best not got caught then...

Akhtar: Not a murderer..

Shoaib's all set for a long holiday...

So, what’s all this about Shoaib Akhtar and a five year ban?

Well, Shoaib Akhtar has been given a five year ban.

Thanks, any chance you could elaborate?

You mean, you’d like this somewhat confusing issue cleared up in a nice and easy Q&A format? How convenient.

Indeed. So what’s the score?

The man dubbed the Rawalpindi Express was suspended following a disciplinary on Tuesday for comments made against the Pakistan Cricket Board.

What the hell did he say?!

Well he was already serving a two-year probation for attacking his team mate Mohammad Asif last year, and then he criticised the PCB when he wasn’t given a central contract in January, claiming to have been made a scapegoat following the defeats to India.

Sounds like he had a point.

Maybe so, but the PCB didn’t think so. They said that they had “lost confidence” in him and that they felt “his presence in the field was damaging to the Pakistan team, for Pakistan players and for the image of Pakistan cricket."

So what is he going to do?

He’s set to fight the ban in court, saying that his punishment is harsh and that he “hasn’t murdered anyone.”

Well isn’t that a relief.

Er, yeah. Still, he is allowed to play in the Indian Premier League later this April.

Oh well that’s alright, that’s all anyone in cricket cares about these days anyway isn’t it?

Oh hark at her..
